মন্ত্রীত্বের লোভে নয়, যোগেন্দ্রনাথ পাকিস্তানে থেকে গিয়েছিলেন দেশভাগের বলি তাঁর বিপন্ন আপনজনদের পাশে দাঁড়াতে। যোগেন্দ্রনাথ যে সঠিক কাজটি করেছিলেন তার প্রমাণ মেলে যখন আমরা কোলকাতার ঘর-বাড়ি ফেলে দিয়ে ও রমরমা আইন ব্যবসায় ছেড়ে দিয়ে মুকুন্দ বিহারী মল্লিককে ঢাকায় চলে যেতে দেখি। দেখি বসন্তকুমার দাস, অক্ষয়কুমার দাস, ধীরেন্দ্রনাথ দত্ত, কামিনী কুমার দত্ত, শ্রীশচন্দ্র চট্টোপাধ্যায়, শরৎচন্দ্র মজুমদার, মনোরঞ্জন ধর প্রমুখ কংগ্রেস নেতাদের পাকিস্তানে থেকে যেতে। অনুরূপ ভাবে শহীদ সোহরাওয়ার্দিও এপার বাংলার বিপন্ন মুসলিমদের পাশে দাঁড়াতে পাকিস্তান হাসিল হওয়ার পরেও প্রায় দু’বছর এদেশে থেকে গিয়েছিলেন।৪৫ তাছাড়া যোগেন্দ্রনাথের পাকিস্তানে থেকে যাওয়ার গুরুত্বপূর্ণ সিদ্ধান্তের পেছনে তাঁর রাজনৈতিক গুরু ডঃ বি.আর. আম্বেদকরের অনুমোদনও ছিল। ২.৬.১৯৪৭ তাং-এ এক গুরুত্বপূর্ণ গোপন চিঠিতে ডঃ আম্বেদকর যোগেন্দ্রনাথকে জানান: “The only course left to the Scheduled Castes is to fight for safeguards either in a United Bengal or a Divided Bengal. It is possible for the reasons you have mentioned that the Scheduled Castes in Eastern Bengal will elect to stay where they are even when partition comes,........... In the meantime I agree that you should work in alliance with the League and secure adequate safeguards for them......... The Muslim League, however, will be ready to give the Scheduled Castes separate electorate more probably because they themselves want separate electorate for their own com- munity.
